Meeting Notes

September 7, 1996 -- Phoenix, Arizona

  • Alumni: Golf Tournament. Though many details are still unclear, it seems fairly certain that this charity event should be a lot of fun. The time will be 9am on one day of the convention -- details to follow!
  • Banquets: Themes have been determined, and the prices remain the same as last year ($16 opening, $19 closing, $35 for both).
  • Ceremonies: Girl Scout troops are being sought for a flag ceremony. For the invocations, it has been suggested that members of differenct faiths be represented -- they are therefore looking for a shaman, wiccan priest or priestess, and other leaders of "non-traditional" faiths (Before anyone gets nervous, though, they are doing this to make our banquet invocations more inclusionary, rather than exclusionary). For all those who gave input for the revamping of roll call, thanks...at this time, it appears that roll calls will have a 60 second limit, and chapters will be required to register to do roll call. All chapters will receive rules in their registration packets.
  • Dances: Pat Burke has been instrumental in finding us a great DJ for our dances. For those who are interested, there will be a "Strictly Ballroom" theme to the first dance, and a "Time Machine" theme to the second. Each dance will feature a variety of music, and weíre sure that you'll find something to your liking!
  • Entertainment: Dance alternatives...So far we've got APO Singled Out, movie nights, miniature golf, a twister tournament, Giant Human Knot, t-shirt signing, Game Show Night, and Casino Night. If you'd like to add your input, or if you have an idea for an activity, email the Entertainment committee!
  • Exhibits: Currently collecting Region X paraphanalia, and researching the APO quilt.
  • Hosting: A Grand Canyon Trip is planned, and information on Jeep trips to the desert should soon be available.
  • Middle night: Talent Show!
  • Printing: If you have anything to be printed, let the Printing c'e know IMMEDIATELY. They're also still trying to get more computers -- we're working on getting some loaned from Apple Computer at this point, and others are in the works. Don't forget, though, if you have a powerbook (or other laptop), we will be eternally grateful if you bring it along to help with notetaking during the committee meetings!
  • Safety and Security: We don't know how they did it, but they've got 25 radios and 10 pagers. Yay!
  • Seminars: For those who haven't yet turned in their packets for their presentations, let's get this show on the road! They really need these ASAP so that they can schedule seminars (hopefully without conflicts) and get things situated in time to print programs...
  • Service: Looks like Ugly Brother on the Board (if you haven't seen this, you haven't seen anything), canned food and clothing drives, sandwich making, and perhaps a downtown park cleanup are in the works here. More info on service as we have it!
  • Signage: Looking into an electronic marquis...and a giant cactus.
  • Souveniers: The pins are done, and they're really beautiful.
  • Visuals: Both this committee and Alumni are working diligently on a slide show.
