Systems Release Architect

Evaluated the existing Ventro architecture and developed a plan to overhaul the existing architecture and migrate to a J2EE-compliant version.
Responsible for evaluating and selecting new technology partners for Ventro and incorporating their technologies into the company’s architecture. Developed prototypes using the new technologies as part of the evaluation process.
Looked at emerging industry standards, e.g. Biztalk and RosettaNet and developed a plan to adopt the standards.
Worked to establish a common development environment for all development teams (Procurement, Fulfillment, ERP, Catalog, Search). Worked with the development team leads to reach a consensus to use the same Operating System, version of JDK, Application Server product and version, and be J2EE compliant.
Worked with the DBA Engineering team to redesign the existing Oracle database schema used by the catalog system.
Analyzed, identified and prioritized performance bottlenecks throughout the architecture, including the Java and J2EE-based systems.
Worked with the engineering team leads and product management to identify technical issues with migrating the existing architecture to an internationalization (i18n) version.
Acted as a resource to resolve technical issues with the J2EE-Compliant Customer Self Administration Tool project. This tool made real-time distributed transactions to all systems that contained buyer data -- Procurement, ERP, Catalog, etc.
Worked with the engineering team leads to determine the accuracy of the Class and Sequence Diagrams of their systems and updated them.

Senior Software Engineer/Development Team Lead

As the fourth engineer in the company assumed responsibility for developing the search and catalog systems. Have acted as sole developer, then lead and architect after growing the engineering team to five engineers. As the lead engineer, acted as liaison for my development team between Product/Project Management, Release Management, QA, other engineering groups, and Application Support Group for over two years. Managed the development costs and kept the development schedule on-track for all releases for the search system from its initial inception to its current state – a distributed, and n-tiered system.

Architected and developed the patent-pending Ventro B2B Catalog system with emphasis on the Ventro B2B Search system. Several B2B marketplaces (e.g. Chemdex, Industria, MarketMile, and Promedix) used Ventro’s Catalog and Search systems on their production site.
Devised a prototype for the next generation Ventro Search system. The new search system bridges the limitations of a conventional full-text search and a relational-based query. The new search system would use a J2EE-compliant architecture, including EJB, JDBC JMS, and SOAP technology.
Developed the Search framework used to build the Search system. The framework consists of objects written using Verity technology and Objectspace's C++ Standard Template Library. The Ventro B2B distributed and multi-tiered Search system was built using the framework, Tibco technology and Objectspace's C++ STL.
Led the development team through several major and minor releases of the Search system for over a period of two years. Came up with feasible timelines and allocated resources to ensure that projects were completed on time. Created and fostered good development processes/practices within the group.
Developed proprietary parsers to translate XML-like flat structured search requests from the client (front-end) into complex hierarchical search requests passed to the search system.
Worked with the DBA Engineering team to develop triggers used to monitor product updates and keep the distributed search repositories in-synch with the databases.
Authored several technical white papers describing the architecture of the search system. Prepared design documents and test plans prior to each major release of the system.
Wrote OO Perl scripts using Connect's PurchaseStream Perl API to retrieve product data from Connect's Oneserver product.

Verity, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA

Jan. 1994 - May 1998

Software Engineer

Used Rogue Wave's DBTools.h++ to rewrite the Agent database driver for Oracle, Sybase, Informix, ODBC, and MS SQL Server from C to C++.
Designed the Agent class and all the member functions and variables based on the existing C code base.
Improved the API's performance by introducing a persistent storage feature using Rogue Wave's B-Tree class.
Wrote performance drivers in C to measure the profiling and the delivery throughput before and after the re-architecture.
Used Perl, Yacc and Verity Information Server and Agent Server to create and maintain a customized help desk application. The application was fully integrated with the internal Oracle database, the World Wide Web, electronic FAX and email.
Designed web forms and wrote CGI scripts for the technical support department Wrote SQL scripts to provide statistical data on the department’s performance.
Used the DBI (Database Independent Interface) Perl module to create several applications that assisted the technical support call dispatcher with assigning ownership of new technical support issues to members of the technical support staff based upon their expertise and load.

Senior Technical Support Engineer

Provided phone support for the complete line of Verity products and worked on escalated issues.
Wrote sample C code using Verity's Development Kit for customers and debugged their Verity C/C++ code.
Prepared training material and held training classes for new employees as well as field employees.
