Meeting called to order at 11:00 AM.

Minutes from the December General Meeting (12/02/2001) approved.

Finance Report

We have closed our current account. Michele Ploessel is in the process of opening our new account at Washington Mutual. The following people will have signing powers: Claude Zachary, Fran Zandonella, Jennifer Hernandez, Roz Helfand, and Michele Ploessel.

The web page was updated in January and reflects the current information regarding officers and upcoming events.

New Business

February Letter Writing Campaign

Michele contacted Donna Blitzer, Director of Government and Community Relations at UCSC. She has provided a list of issues and concerns that UCSC would like Los Angeles Alumni to address with their local representatives during the UC Lobby Days in March. She also provided a sample letter that we can use for our letter writing campaign.

We are meeting to write letters on Thursday, February 21, 2002, at 8PM at Roz Helfand's house. The chapter will provide sample letters, paper, envolopes, and stamps. We need you to come and write to your local representative!

March Pizza Party

Please join us to celebrate the start of March at 5PM Sunday, March 3, 2002, at alumnus Wendy Gault's home for pizza and socializing with other Los Angeles area Santa Cruzians. More information to be sent soon on this event.

May Movie Screening

We are screening a new film editted by Steven Mirrione, who won the Academy Award this year for editing the movie Traffic. He also edited the current release, Ocean's Eleven. At present the film is not titled. This film was directed by a UCSC alumnus as well, though I do not have the director's name at the moment. The screening will take place at the Harmony Gold Theater located on Sunset Boulevard, near Fairfax. The screening is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 2 PM. The central alumni office is arranging catering for this event. We are hoping to have the Chancellor attend.

June Dim Sum Craziness

Please join us for brunch at Ocean Seafood, Sunday, June 2, 2002, at 11AM for Dim Sum. We had a wonderful time last year and we are planning on a great time this year! Please contact Michele for more information regarding this event.

Rennaisance Faire

Who is interested in meeting to go to the Rennaisance Faire the weekend of June 8 or 9? Please contact Michele Ploessel at myshel@ix.netcom.com if interested. We can arrange to purchase group tickets at a discounted price.

Hollywood Bowl

We are trying to plan our anual trip to the Hollywood Bowl for eiter July or August. Are there any concerts you think people would like to see? If interested in helping us plan this event please contact Michele.

Shakespeare Santa Cruz and Alumni Wine Tasting Summer 2002 Trip

July 26-28, 2002

Please join us on this exciting trip to reacquaint yourself with UC Santa Cruz!

We are increasing the number of spaces to 30 for this trip. We are trying to schedule a tour of campus in addition to having Los Angeles members attend the Wine Tasting and Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

Please contact Fran if interested in attending this event. RSVP deadline for the event is May 20, 2002. We are working on establishing the costs for the trip. We have arranged to have a block of rooms set aside for our use on campus. Also, if interested in helping Fran plan this event/trip please contact her.

The local chapter is trying to plan more social events for this year. If you have any suggestions or would like to host a social event please contact Michele Ploessel at myshel@ix.netcom.com.
