Finance Report

Jennifer reported that we currently have about $3700.00 in our account. She will send the $250 contribution to the Alumni Fund in honor of Jeremy Strick and David Graves on behalf of their involvement with the May 2000 Wine Tasting.

Upcoming Events

March Faculty Visit

Craig Haney can't make the March date, so we will reschedule for April 1, 2001.

For the March meeting, we will have a potluck at either Claude's or Fran's house.

April Faculty Visit

We have arranged for Professor Craig Haney to come to Los Angeles to give a lecture on his area of study. Professor Haney is available in April. We are trying to schedule for Sunday, April 1, 2001, to coincide with our current April 2001 business meeting.

Claude will look into alternative venues to the Beverly Hills library. The library is only available on April 7th, right before Passover.

People attending can RSVP to Michele Ploessel either by email at myshel@ix.netcom.com or by phone at 323-654-2680.

As this event is so close to the Wine Tasting, we will combine together the mailings for both events.

May Wine Tasting

May Wine Tasting is scheduled for May 5, 2001.

We still do not have a location for the wine tasting. However, we are looking into the Bergamont Station and perhaps a tour of a nearby TV studio. Claude and Allison will look into if they have a liquor license and see if the space is large enough for our tasting.

We are still trying to locate a vintner. Allison is working on this.

Summer Trips

Jennifer reports that the trip to Wrigley Research Center on Catalina is probably a no go since she hasn't heard back from her friend who works there.

Most people at the meeting liked the idea of going to UCSC for the Alumni Wine Tasting & Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Fran will ask Allison about the possbility of staying on campus for the trip. If we can't stay there, we might stay at the Holiday Inn, which has been taken over by UCSC to use as dorm space.

Making a Difference at UCSC Meeting

The UC Lobby Days are coming up on March 5 & 6th.

Roz will create some sample letters that people can send to their representatives in LA that explain the concerns of the UCSC Alumni and students.

(For example: preserving the uniqueness of UCSC, or the overcrowding of dorms on campus)

Fran will put our list of possible actions to take on a web page with a link from the top page.

You can reach your local California representatives at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html

Campus News

Ken Feingold told us that UCSC has taken a 10 year lease on the downtown Holiday Inn for use as an off-campus dorm.
