Minutes of UCSC Alumni Association, LA Chapter, 10/03/99

Present: Claude Zachary, Ken Feingold, Fran Zandonella, Ann Reinhart, Brigitta Ohlig

The UCSC Alumni Association Los Angeles Chapter held its mandated Annual Business Meeting on Sunday, October 3rd, at the fascinating Petersen Automotive Museum with about 25 attendees. Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, who was participating in a Mayor's breakfast in the adjoining room, stopped by to say hi. He indicated that two of his children had attended UCSC. We gave him a "100% slug" button and enjoyed the quick exchange.

Ken Feingold covered the highlights of the past year, including the Bonny Doon wine-tasting with Randall Grahm and the July Sea of Cortez cruise. For the coming year, any and all ideas were and are being entertained. We discussed a possible visit to L.A.'s downtown movie houses. Ann Reinhart has attended an annual event, The Last Remaining Seats, put on by the L.A Conservancy and agreed to look into the possibilities. Claude Zachary is interested in following up on the Hollywood Bowl outing of Summer 98 with a group theater or concert outing that Brigitta Ohlig also expressed interest in. We're looking into the possibility of a summer trip, either July or August, to Big Sur and hopefully staying at the UC Reserve there. If there is a UCSC Professor you'd like to have come down and give us a presentation, let me know!

The election results were: Claude Zachary, President Lisa Buschmann, Vice President of Technology (so we can avoid any Y2K problems) Ken Feingold, Vice- President of Travel Fran Zandonella, Secretary and Webmaster Jennifer Brow, Treasurer.

We concluded with a docent-led tour of the permanent exhibits of the Museum and a walk through of the Woody exhibit on the second floor -- this was my first visit through the Museum and it's a real slice of Los Angeles history! Highly recommended.

Our next meeting for the Board and any interested members will be at the Feingold house, 215 22nd St., Santa Monica, on November 20th at 4:00p.m.
