Annual General Meeting held November 15, 1998

Summit Hotel Bel-Air

Lisa Buschmann opened the meeting at approximately 10:45 AM.

Everyone present introduced themselves.

Elections:
The candidates for officers of the Chapter were introduced and nominations
for additional candidates were solicited from the floor.  No additional
nominates were offered, and the standing slate was unanimously approved.
The officers are:
   Lisa Buschmann -- President
   Ken Feingold      -- Vice-President and Travel Agent
   Claude Zachary	--  Secretary
   Jennifer Brow 	--  Treasurer

Recap of 1998 Events:
Last year's schedule of events was recapped, including the Wine Tasting
(coordinated by Susan Bok) and the weekend on Santa Cruz Island.  The
coming year's tentative schedule was then introduced.  Presently the annual
Wine (and Beer?) Tasting is set for May 1, 1999, and an outreach program to
relate to high school students who might be interested in attending UCSC
was brought to the floor to solicit interested and motivated alums.  Some
kind of workshop by a UCSC professor (perhaps John Dizikes) is also being
considered.

Upcoming Events in 1999:
Ken then launched into an enthusiastic presentation (complete with slide
show) of the upcoming Sea of Cortez trip set for July 20 through 25, 1999
to be led by Professor Burney LeBoeuf.  The trip will include 3 days at sea
with snorkelling and island hopping.  More information has been and will be
distributed by Ken.

Ann Montgomery from the UCSC Alumni Office spoke about the annual UCSC
Banana Slug Spring Fair Weekend on campus, scheduled for April 17, 1999,
and encouraged attendance.  She gave news from campus, including the
building program, scholarship program, and Chancellor Greenwood's
indefatigable energy.

The meeting concluded with a raffle of choice UCSC gift items specially
chosen and presented by Ann, and was adjorned at approximately 11:35.
Shuttle service to the Getty Center was provided and the remainder of the
afternoon was spent in the splendor of J.P. Getty's largesse.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and hope to see everyone at some
point in the coming year's activities.
